The beginning of Perfume Acres Inc.
Our story began over 50 years ago in 1968, when the late Bill Maul and Wanda Maul began raising a few feeder bigs before getting a few sows on their farm in Central Illinois. By 1975, their facility had grown into a farrow-to-finish operation. Over the years, they increased both their sow herd and their own herd – adding lots of pigs, six kids, and a growing number of grandkids to the farm! We have had many great employees and families involved in our farm over the years that have kept us up and running. Their care for our pigs is the reason we are still here today. We are so proud to be a part of the agriculture industry.

The start of the Country Market
With three generations of the Maul family currently involved in the farm, we were in a unique position to expand our operation. It was always a dream to sell our pork directly to consumers, so in April 2020, we decided to go for it. We transformed a section of John and Tresa’s horse barn at their home outside of Cissna Park, into a small functioning store housing 3 freezers and a few shelves to hold produce and a few local grocery items. With it being the start of Covid, there was some indecision whether to start this next chapter as these plans had been formed before the pandemic. We started as delivery and curbside pickup before finally opening our doors and allowing in-person service in June of 2020. With the support of our community, loyal customers, and new guests, we were able to relocate and scale up our inventory to supply more to our community. On June 29th, 2021, we officially opened in town. We have since expanded again and have moved to our current location at 205 East Fire Lane, Cissna Park on August 13th, 2024. Our community has embraced us and our product, and we hope you will too. We are looking forward to putting pork on your plate!
